Creative Journeys

Creative Journeys was a project that used Shirley Goodsell’s paintings of Hull’s old town as a starting point for a series of creative writing workshops. Three workshops were led by Sue Wilsea and Jackie Goodman, both of whom have taught on the BA (Hons) Creative Writing programme at the University of Hull and together have run many writing projects in collaboration with community, education and health organisations. The open workshops followed themes inherent in Shirley’s paintings: Changing Times, Family Matter and Sense of Place. Those taking part included writers with some experience and those for whom writing in a new venture. The results produced a wealth of material providing a fascinating insight to life in and around Hull based on personal memories. Originally produced in booklet form, you can listen to a selection of recorded extracts from the stories below.
