Peter & Elizabeth Melia

Peter and Elizabeth were both born near Manchester. Peter joined the RAF and was based at RAF Patrington. Initially they lived on site but liked the area and bought a house in Hedon. Peter worked away a lot and the couple made the decision that Elizabeth would remain in East Yorkshire to provide stability for their daughters. Peter recalls travelling to London each week and seeing the building of the Humber Bridge from start to finish. Peter retired from the RAF and travelled selling electrical components across Europe. Once their children had grown up Peter trained as a butler and the couple worked together as butler and housekeeper in a number of households including that of an American gunrunner and his Swedish wife in France. They returned to Hull and now live in their daughter’s flat.
