Doreen Arnold
Doreen recalls her Second World War memories talking about an unexploded bomb at the Hawthorn Avenue railway crossings. Her father worked as a boiler man below decks during the war and was posted to Ceylon. Doreen lived on Eastbourne Street in the Hessle Road area of Hull and attended Somerset Street School. She remembers being bombed out of the house on Eastbourne Street. After the war her father worked for Jackson’s Bread Factory. When she left school Doreen worked in an office although her friends worked at Needler’s. She also worked at Smith & Nephew and at a newsagent’s on St. George’s Road before getting married and moving to Cottingham.
