Lisa Harrison Wedgner is from a very multiracial family. She has a grandfather from Belize and a heritage rooted in Europe, Central America and Africa. Her eclectic family environment and her experience of living in diverse communities during her early years meant she had a feeling of ‘culture shock’ when moving to areas such as Hull where there are fewer different nationalities. She talks about her enjoyment of making Hull her home for the past thirty years and how her work gives her the belief that opportunities can be created to positively engage young people.
